Johannesburg - Kim Martin, cousin of Reeva Steenkamp, is expected to conclude her testimony during sentencing proceedings for Oscar Pistorius in the High Court in Pretoria on Thursday.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel is set to wrap up his questioning of Martin, who is testifying in aggravation of sentence against Pistorius, convicted of the culpable homicide of Steenkamp, his girlfriend at the time.

Defence counsel Barry Roux indicated to the court on Wednesday that he would ask Martin only two “short” questions.

“I'm not going to cross-examine (her).”

Judge Thokozile Masipa has already reminded the lawyers that proceedings need to be concluded soon as she would not be available from next week.

On Wednesday, tears flowed in court as Martin spoke about how it had felt like the “end of the world” when she found out Steenkamp had been killed.

It was the first time the court had heard testimony from one of Steenkamp’s relatives and Martin said that she felt she had an obligation to be Reeva's “voice”.

“I had to do this for Reeva, I owe her this,” Martin told the court.

On Valentine's Day 2013, Pistorius shot Steenkamp through a closed bathroom door in his Pretoria townhouse. He has maintained throughout that he believed she was an intruder.

He has also been found guilty of discharging a firearm in public in relation to a separate incident. - Sapa
