Polokwane - Fidelity Security Group has offered a R100 000 reward for the arrest and successful prosecution of thugs who shot and killed a guard during a cash-in-transit robbery in Polokwane.

Phineas Mufamadi, 33, was shot three times and died at the scene during a robbery on Tuesday night, group chief executive Wahl Bartmann said on Wednesday.

Limpopo police spokeswoman Colonel Ronel Otto said the robbery took place at about 5.30pm in the premises of the British American Tobacco company in the Magna Via area.

“Security guards from Fidelity were collecting money when they were attacked by five suspects wearing balaclavas,” said Otto.

“They fled in two vehicles after taking undisclosed amount of money.”

After the shootout, Mufamadi’s colleague tried to flee by driving off in the cash van.

“He attempted to flee but they (robbers) shot the tyre. When the vehicle stopped, they took the money and fled in two cars,” said Otto.

She said the guard who attempted to flee was not injured.

Bartmann said the surviving guard was offered trauma counselling. His officials had been in contact with Mufamadi’s family.

The company had beefed up security in the Polokwane area after the attack and was offering a R100 000 reward.
