Johannesburg - A man who allegedly shot dead a motorcyclist during a road rage confrontation appeared in the High Court in Johannesburg, sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court, on Monday.

Meekahefele Masooa, 43, would be back in court on August 11 after Judge Eben Jordaan postponed the matter.

Before the postponement, prosecutor Arveena Persad told the court that while Monday had been set down as the provisional trial date, the State and defence had agreed to postpone the matter.

Masooa, wearing a beige suit with light shirt and bright tie during his brief appearance, is accused of shooting Douglas Pearce, 39, on Malibongwe Drive, Johannesburg, on February 14 last year.

Pearce was on a motorbike at the time. During the bail application it was heard that both men carried firearms. Mosooa claims he acted in self-defence.

Jordaan extended Masooa's R5 000 bail.
