Pretoria - Economist Dawie Roodt is out of the intensive care unit, while the search for the intruders who attacked him and his family last Thursday has intensified.

His daughter Danielle told the Pretoria News her father had been moved to a general ward at the Netcare Pretoria East Hospital, where he underwent an operation following the attack.

Meanwhile, a Facebook campaign was gaining momentum, with a R50 000 reward being offered for information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the attackers.

“Doctors say he has made a remarkable recovery,” Danielle said. “He is awake and very talkative, but gets tired quickly.

“We even spoke about the incident that led to him being hospitalised and he said he was prepared to do all he could to protect us.”

Roodt, his wife Marina, their twin toddlers and Danielle were attacked at about 8pm at their Faerie Glen home.

The Efficient Group chief economist bravely fought off one of the men, almost losing his arm.

The robbers, armed with a revolver, panga and hunting knife, somehow managed to gain access to their home.

They confronted Danielle at gunpoint after she parked her car in the garage.

After tying up the family, the three robbers then ransacked their house. “They gagged us and blindfolded us with linen while they searched for money,” Danielle said.

She said she was unaware of the reward that had been offered by Bossies Community Justice.
