Rustenburg - The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in the North West on Thursday welcomed the arrest of two people in connection with the assassination of prominent businessman, Wandile Bozwana.

“The breakthrough by the investigating team should bring much relief to our communities and end weeks of speculation as to who was the mastermind behind the horrendous assassination” said provincial chairperson Paul Sebegoe.

“Our communities would be much safer with heartless criminals that carried out the ghastly act in broad daylight removed from our streets and neighbourhoods,” he said.

Gauteng police said two people linked to the murder of Bozwana were arrested at an undisclosed location in Johannesburg on Wednesday. They were expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said more arrests were expected.

Bozwana was gunned down in what was suspected to be a hit in Garsfontein, east of Pretoria, on October 2. Gunman fired a number of round into the passenger side where he was seated, hitting him nine time. He later died in hospital.

He and a colleague, Mpho Baloyi, had been travelling on the N1 north from Johannesburg when gunmen in a silver grey BMW M3 allegedly pulled up next to their car near the Garsfontein off-ramp and opened fire on the branded Renault Clio.

A total of 12 rounds hit the car. Baloyi, who was driving, was shot twice, but managed to drive to a nearby car dealership to seek help.
