Free State - The lawyers of a 16-year-old boy accused of the Griquatown farm murders and his school have reached an out of court settlement on his schooling, the Volksblad newspaper reported on Thursday.

Under the settlement, he would not return to school until after his trial.

The parents of other pupils at the school had threatened to remove their children when it became known that the boy would return to school, the newspaper reported.

The Free State High Court would be asked to make the settlement an order of the court on Thursday.

According to Volksblad, the boy’s lawyer Stoffel de Jager said the settlement meant the boy would receive distance education, as the school would supply him with study material.

He would remain a pupil of the school and teachers would help him after hours with work he did not understand.

The boy’s guardian had approached the court for a review of the schools governing body’s decision not to allow the boy to go back to the school hostel or the school. - Sapa
