Seven held for KZN taxi rank shooting

Port Shepstone - Seven men were arrested, and nine firearms as well as ammunition were seized after a shooting at the Port Shepstone taxi rank, police reported on Monday

“The suspects are believed to belong to a security company working for a taxi association,” said SAPS.

The Port Shepstone SAPS said they were alerted of shots being fired at the taxi rank, on Tuesday, and in response, they arrested all seven men in and around the rank.

A case of attempted murder was opened for investigation.

SAPS said all seven men were detained for further investigation while their firearms were sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the shooting or any other crime in the country.

The suspects were expected to appear in Port Shepstone Magistrates Court soon.

The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni condemned the shooting incident that occurred at the taxi rank. “Innocent people end up dying due to such shootings that are committed by people who are driven by greed. We will thoroughly investigate and find the root-cause of this incident,” she said.
