Johannesburg - Singer Kelly Khumalo and her sister handed themselves over to police on Tuesday after allegedly assaulting the wife of Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

The sisters were arrested at the Hillbrow police station. “I can confirm that she has been arrested but I do not have details,” said Warrant Officer Richard Munyai.

The incident happened in August but they handed themselves over to the police on Tuesday.

Police said the incident happened in late August when Khumalo allegedly found Meyiwa chatting to his wife Mandisa on Empire Road near the M1. She allegedly stopped her car and assaulted Mandisa, without provocation.

Khumalo’s younger sister, who was sitting in the car, joined in.

On Tuesday night, police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the sisters had applied for bail and so they didn’t have to spend a night in the cells.

He said the pair were due to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court this morning on a charge of assault.

On Tuesday afternoon, after she had appeared at the Hillbrow police station, Khumalo tweeted: “God will do what he said he will stand by his word, no weapon formed against me shall prosper, it won’t work!”
