Johannesburg - Six men have been arrested in Qwaqwa after they allegedly kidnapped and raped a 17-year-old girl, Free State police said on Thursday.

Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said the incident took place at Mangaung village in the Maboshoane section on Wednesday evening.

“The girl was at home with her guardian when they heard someone knocking at their door. Her guardian went [to] open the door and six young men stormed into the house,” Mophiring said.

He said the men, aged 20 and 21, allegedly took the girl away against her will to another house in the same section. “She was allegedly raped by four of the six suspects.”

She reported the incident to the police late on Wednesday night.

“The police upon receiving the information acted swiftly and pounced on the suspects at the scene,” said Mophiring.

He said four of the suspects have been charged with rape, and all six face kidnapping charges.

The suspects were expected to appear in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
