Johannesburg - Thirty-nine people were arrested in Soweto on Monday night, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

Twelve shebeens were closed and their owners arrested for operating illegally, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele said.

In a road block, six stolen vehicles were recovered, 18 people were arrested for drug-related crimes, and three for possession of stolen property.

“The suspects will appear before the courts soon,” he said.
