Johannesburg -

The father of the two toddlers stabbed by intruders in Dobsonville, Soweto, on Friday said he was angry that the charges against their alleged attacker were withdrawn.

He arrived at the Protea Magistrate's Court where he expected the suspect to appear but the matter had not been placed on the roll.

“I'm angry because the charges were withdrawn because the grandmother said this was not the man who had attacked them,” the father Lehlogonolo Majara told journalists.

Majara's two boys, aged two and three, their 20-year-old mother, and grandmother were attacked during a robbery in their home in Dobsonville extension three on Tuesday night. Two men were believed to be involved.

Majara said the grandmother could not be sure that it was the wrong man who was arrested as it was dark when they were attacked.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the charges against the 33-year-old suspect were withdrawn due to insufficient evidence against him.

He was released from custody, said NPA spokeswoman Phindi Louw.

The two-year-old boy was stabbed three times on his head, and the three-year-old stabbed eight times in his body. The boys' mother suffered multiple stab wounds on her left arm.

The boys' 60-year-old grandmother was cut on her forehead during the robbery.

The robbers fled the scene with electrical appliances. - Sapa
