Gauteng -

A Gauteng police reservist died in hospital in the early hours of Friday after he was stabbed in Orlando, Soweto, police said.

He was attacked on Thursday when patrolling police approached a man thought to have dagga in his possession, Lt-Col Katlego Mogale said.

“When the reservist tried to search the suspect, he pulled out a knife and stabbed the (reservist) member in the chest.”

The officer fired a shot as he fell to the ground. The man died and the reservist was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Mogale said

In Akasia, Pretoria, while police were trying to arrest a man who allegedly stabbed and wounded another man on Tuesday, “he pulled out a knife and stabbed the 1/8police 3/8 member twice”.

Mogale said the stabbed officer retaliated by firing shots, which killed the man.

She said the officer was in critical condition at a local hospital. - Sapa
