North Cape - The State has appealed against the bail of R5 000 granted to a 16-year-old boy accused of murdering a Griquatown family on April 6, it was reported on Tuesday.

The National Prosecuting Authority appealed to the Kimberley High Court on Monday to overturn the bail granted to the boy by the Griquatown Magistrate's Court on September 3, Beeld newspaper reported.

The State alleged that he could pose a danger to others, and argued that the magistrate who made the finding on bail had underemphasised the violence contained in the charges and had overemphasised the boy's interests.

However, the boy's lawyer, Susan Erasmus, told the court he had not been officially charged yet, and there was still a chance he could be innocent.

Judgment was reserved. - Sapa
