Johannesburg - Reeva Steenkamp’s parents are involved in settlement talks with Oscar Pistorius, the couple’s lawyer has reportedly confirmed.

The Olympic athlete stands accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva at his luxury Pretoria east home on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

During his bail application Pistorius indicated he would plead not guilty as he had mistaken her for an intruder when he shot her.

Advocate Dup de Bruyn, who is representing Barry and June Steenkamp, told the Beeld newspaper that negotiations were at a “sensitive stage”.

According to Beeld, De Bruyn refused to comment on weekend reports that the couple were claiming between R2 million and R3 million in compensation from Pistorius.

Pistorius is set to go on trial in the Pretoria High Court from March 3 to 20.

The settlement is related to a civil claim the Steenkamps are pursuing against Pistorius and is not related to his murder trial. - IOL
