Johannesburg - The alleged “Sunday rapist” premeditated his killings, the High Court sitting in Alberton heard on Thursday.

Prosecutor Mutuwa Nengovhela said Johannes Steyn used a fire enhancer when he allegedly set alight school girl Louise de Waal, which indicated that he had planned the killing.

“You don't decide to kill a person by burning them on the spur of the moment,” said Nengovhela.

Steyn has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder, 11 of rape, 10 of sexual assault, 10 of kidnapping, one of attempted sexual assault, and one of attempted kidnapping.

Nengovhela said Steyn took De Waal to his home because he knew he would later kill her, which meant she would not be able to later identify him or his house.

Steyn should also be punished for raping De Waal.

“He said he penetrated her. Whether it was oral or any other organ, it's rape,” said Nengovhela.

No semen was found on her badly burnt body.

The prosecution asked the court to take into consideration that most of De Waal's burns were on her thighs, suggesting that Steyn could have been trying to destroy evidence.

The State dismissed Steyn's testimony that he had taken a prostitute to his home on the same day De Waal was raped and killed.

“What he said he did with the prostitute he actually did with Louise. The prostitute was non-existent,” said Nengovhela. - Sapa
