Pietermaritzburg - A man charged with the murder and aggravated robbery of Underberg forester Daniel Knight and the assault of his partner was acquitted on Tuesday of all charges by the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
Judge Jerome Mnguni would give reasons for acquitting Lucky Gcina, 24, of Bulwer, on November 5, when he would also hand down judgment on the remaining accused in the matter, Tsepiso Ramongale, 20, and Bonginkosi Nyawose, 33. The two remain in custody.
Knight and Dilys Bucher were attacked in their Himeville home on an October night last year.
In June the court heard that Knight was tied up and bludgeoned to death with a hammer.
Bucher was assaulted, tied to a washbasin pedestal, and a surgeon's glove stretched over her nostrils and mouth. She saved herself from suffocation by sucking part of the glove into her mouth and biting a hole into it.
Knight's two vehicles and three firearms were stolen.
Bucher, who ran a firewood business, subsequently left the district for the coast.
