Cape Town - A man has been arrested in Mitchells Plain in connection with the wounding of a Cape Town traffic officer, the city said on Monday.

On Thursday, a 41-year-old man was arrested for allegedly shooting and wounding the traffic policeman outside his home in Rocklands in March, mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith said in a statement.

The man was found in possession of a pistol.

“This arrest is a very positive development and is the first breakthrough in a series of attacks on city law enforcement staff this year,” Smith said.

He thanked everyone who helped to secure the arrest.

“We will be watching the case closely and will assist the prosecuting authority as far as we can to ensure a conviction.”
