Johannesburg - Two male suspects were arrested for hijacking and being in possession of a police uniform, blue lights, as well as illegal firearms and ammunition, Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said on Friday.

Minnaar said the arrest took place at around 2pm on Friday, on Lennin Road in Alexandra.

“They made a u-turn before a roadblock,” he said.

When JMPD officers pulled them over it was discovered that the car had been hijacked and had been fitted with two different number plates.

“Inside officers found two shot guns, three pistols, a police uniform and blue lights,” Minnaar said, adding that officers suspected that the men may be linked to the so-called Rolex gang which carried out armed robberies at wealthy residential properties.

He said investigations were continuing and the men would be appearing in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court soon.
