A policewoman has told how the man accused of violently raping a little girl sent messages to the young victim’s mom.
Constable Ruth Ludick on Wednesday told the Western Cape High Court that the girl’s mother called her and told her that she’d received text messages from her child’s alleged attacker.
Ludick, who is stationed at the Vredenberg Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, was testifying in the trial of Stephen “Foxy” Isaacs who has pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping, rape, assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm and attempted murder.
Ludick told Judge Lee Bozalek that the girl’s mother called her on a Sunday night in October 2010.
“She told me that [Isaacs] phoned her and asked her to meet him at the Darling police station,” said Ludick.
“She also told me that she had received a SMS from the accused earlier that day.”
Ludick said she went to meet the mom the next morning.
“She showed me her phone and I saw the message and the please call me messages that he sent her,” said Ludick.
She said the message read: “Watte soort stories is u besig om te versprei? Vra vir [die dogter] voor of agter my of ek haar verkrag het. Moenie ander mense se k** af aan my smeer nie. (What kind of stories are you spreading? Ask her (in front of me or not) if I raped her. Don't make someone else's troubles mine.)”
She said she went to pick the child’s mom up on the Tuesday and waited at the Darling Police Station as Isaacs had asked.
She said they sat at a window that faced the street so that the mother could point him out if he arrived. But they gave up when he still hadn’t arrived by 2pm that day.
