Johannesburg - A taxi owner has been arrested in Tsakane, near Carnival City, for kidnapping and killing his girlfriend, Gauteng police said on Friday.

The 35-year-old man was arrested on Thursday more than 20 months after the killing, Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate said.

It is alleged the man went to his 17-year-old girlfriend's home in January last year, and took her by force after an argument.

“The suspect called the mother of the deceased to go and pick up her dead daughter along R103 road (Old Alberton Road). She was found with a bullet wound on the forehead,” said Tshilate.

The man allegedly fled to KwaZulu-Natal afterwards.

He was arrested following a tip-off, and is due to appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate's Court soon.
