Durban - A woman was killed on the N2 near Queen Nandi Drive on Thursday, in what appeared to be a hit-style shooting.

A taxi boss was shot and wounded, while his wife was shot dead.

This is the second incident this week in which gunmen have opened fire on taxi owners in the area.

Police spokesman Thulani Zwane said: “It is alleged that the man was driving an Audi A4 vehicle when a Mercedes-Benz came from behind, opened fire and then fled the scene.

“A 48-year-old woman died instantly and a man was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.”

They had been travelling towards KwaMashu on the north-bound freeway. “The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage. Investigations are continuing,” said Zwane.

On Tuesday, a taxi owner was shot dead when a group of men in a bakkie shot him and his wife on the M25 KwaMashu Highway near the N2 interchange.

“The wife was taken to hospital in a critical condition. The motive for the shooting is unknown,” said Zwane.
