Butterworth - A 15-year-old boy has been arrested for hacking another teenager to death with an axe in Zingqayi village, Butterworth, following an argument, Eastern Cape police said on Saturday.

The two had attended a traditional ceremony in the village on Thursday. As they were leaving around 6pm, they exchanged unpleasant jokes to one another.

“The one boy went home to fetch an axe,” Manatha said.

He allegedly returned and attacked the boy, also aged 15, who was later taken to hospital. He died upon arrival.

The teenager would appear in the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of murder.
