Griekwastad, Northern Cape - A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a family murder on a Griekwastad farm on Good Friday this year, Northern Cape police said on Tuesday.

Captain Cherelle Ehlers said detectives arrested the boy in Bloemfontein on Tuesday.

Northern Cape farmer Deon Steenkamp, 44, his wife Christelle, 43 and their daughter Marthella, 14, were shot on the family farm Naauwhoek on April 6.

Police said at the time that Steenkamp's son Don, 15, heard shots fired while he was busy in an outside storeroom around 6.30pm on the day.

The boy discovered the bodies in the living room and drove to the police station in town to report the killings.

He handed two firearms over to police, which he said he found at the scene.

Ehlers said the boy was expected to appear in the Griekwastad Magistrate's Court on charges of murder on Thursday.

The investigation into the murders was continuing. - Sapa
