Durban - Three men have appeared for murder at the Magudu Magistrate’s Court, northern KwaZulu-Natal in a case that started with the discovery of human teeth, police reported on Friday.

Siblings Thulani and Phakamani Mncube and Bhekizenzo Khumalo/Dlamini applied for bail on Thursday, said Major Thulani Zwane.

“They were remanded in custody,” he said.

Zwane said the three would appear at Louwsburg Magistrate’s Court on June 15 for the continuation of their bail application.

He said the Vryheid Crime Intelligence members on May 3 received information about a possible murder case in the Esidakeni area in Magudu after human teeth, clothes, empty cartridges and a cellphone were found on the side of the road.

A joint operation was conducted that led to the discovery of the body of an unknown man in a shallow grave with gunshot wounds not far from where teeth, clothes and cartridges were found, Zwane said.

It was suspected that the deceased was kidnapped in the Mondlo area, then taken to Magudu where he was allegedly killed. He was later identified as Siboniso Mbatha , 32.

A case of kidnapping and murder was opened for further investigation, and the three were arrested, said Zwane.

“A firearm suspected to be used in the killing of the victim was recovered, and a vehicle suspected to be used to convey the corpse was found with blood stains.”
