Johannesburg - Someone tried to kill Czech businessman Radovan Krejcir by setting off explosive devices near his car, he said on Wednesday.

“I managed to get away and saved my life...someone out there tried to kill me,” Krejcir told Sapa.

This happened earlier on Wednesday at a parking lot of his offices opposite the East Gate shopping centre in Bedfordview.

Krejcir said he heard loud noises like bullets being fired from a car he parked next to, and was probably set off by remote control as there was no one in that car.

He said he had never seen the car before.

Police spokesman Lt Col Lungelo Dlamini said an attempted murder docket had been opened.

“It is alleged that he arrived at the premises and parked his vehicle. As he was leaving the parking , an explosive device was detonated from the back of the vehicle, a VW Polo, parked opposite his vehicle,” said Dlamini.

“Projectiles hit the vehicle on the drivers side and the drivers window and back window, leaving several holes. It is unknown who detonated the device as well as who parked the vehicle on the premises.”

He said it had been established that the VW Polo was stolen in April at Brixton.

“It was apparently parked on the premise yesterday (Tuesday) by an unkown person.” - Sapa
