Bloemfontein - Three men accused of killing and robbing an elderly couple on their farm in Bainsvlei appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, Free State police said.

The matter was postponed to January 21 for a formal bail application, Captain Harry Nagel said.

Fana Hendrik Ntshedi, 20, Jacobus Motsamai Bitterbos, 25, and Jackie Louw, 21, would remain in police custody.

The bodies of Toon, 70, and Rienie Swanepoel, 72, were dumped near the farm at Waaikraal.

“The couple had been shot and killed during a robbery in which a television set, firearms and vehicle were taken,” Nagel said at the time.

The stolen items were later recovered.
