Bloemfontein – Three men died and two were wounded in a shooting incident in Bloemfontein on Saturday night, Free Sate police said.

A group of friends were sitting at the mini-market in Rocklands, Bloemfontein, at about 8.30pm when two unknown men jumped from a taxi and started shooting randomly towards them, Constable Peter Kareli said on Sunday.

Kagisanong police were alerted and they rushed to the scene. On arrival the police found five badly wounded men lying on the ground with gunshot wounds to the head and the upper body, he said.

Three men, aged between 30 and 35, died at the scene and two others were rushed to Pelonomi Hospital in a serious condition.

“One of the deceased was found with a 9mm pistol in his hand with six live rounds. The motive for the attack is still not yet known and no one has been arrested as yet.”

Kareli appealed to anyone who might have information on the incident to contact Detective Sergeant Matli Machalotsa from the Kagisanong police detective service on 071-629-5819.
