Johannesburg - Gauteng residents can bid a short farewell to the spring weather that arrived earlier this month in the province.

On Thursday, jackets, umbrellas and boots will be the order of the day as rain moves in, putting a damper on the recent warm temperatures and sunny weather that saw people taking out their picnic baskets and going out to play.

South African Weather Service forecaster Christina Thaele said a possible upper-trough and cut-off low would affect the province by Wednesday evening.

“We will still see warm temperatures through Monday and Tuesday going into Wednesday but there will be a drop in temperature as rain moves in from Wednesday evening,” she pointed out.

Thaele added that showers could last all day on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, bringing with it cloudy conditions and cooler weather.

“At this stage, we can expect temperatures to range between the upper teens and low 20s,” she said.
