Durban - Police are looking for a truck driver in connection with the sexual assault of a six-year-old girl in Clairwood.

Police spokesman, Captain Thulani Zwane, said the girl had not arrived home from school on Monday.

She lives in Malvern, but attends a school in Chatsworth.

Her concerned mother reported her missing at the Montclair police station.

“Police found the girl alive on Tuesday morning. The mother alleges that her daughter got lost and ended up in Clairwood.

“She claimed a truck driver took the child. He dragged her into the bush, gagged her, tied her hands up behind her back, beat her and then sexually violated her,” Zwane said.

It is alleged that the man left her in the bush in Solomon Mahlangu (Edwin Swales VC) Drive, and drove off.

The child was found by a passer-by in a semi-conscious state, with severe injuries indicating physical assault and strangulation.

“The child had suffered severe trauma. A medical examination confirmed that she was sexually violated. She has not made an official statement to date,” Zwane said. The Brighton Beach family violence and sexual offences unit was investigating a case of abduction and rape.

At the time of her abduction the girl, who has a small frame, slender build with short braided hair, was wearing a white school dress, with short sleeves, a collar and white belt.

“I would like to urge parents to instruct their children not to deviate from the transport arrangements that have been put in place for them by their parents when travelling to and from school.

“Children should not to talk to strangers, (and should) reject novelties, money, food and drinks offered. They must be taught not to accept lifts from strangers,” said Zwane.
