Cape Town - Two people were killed in shooting incidents in Cape Town on Wednesday, Western Cape police said.

Around 11am, six men tried to rob a cash-in-transit van at Nolungile Railway Station in Site-C Khayelitsha, Captain FC van Wyk said.

“Three security guards were picking up money at the train station when they were shot at by unidentified suspects.”

They returned fire and one of the gunmen, a 30-year-old, was shot dead. Two security guards were wounded, both in the leg. The remaining robbers fled the scene empty-handed.

In another incident, a man was shot dead in Scottsville, Kraaifontein, around the same time on Wednesday.

Emergency medical services spokesman Robert Daniels said the man was shot in the head.

Van Wyk said two people were arrested and would appear in court soon to face a charge of murder.

“The motive for the shooting is unknown,” he said.
