Johannesburg - Two men, including a former police sergeant, have been fined for trespassing and malicious damage to property by the Hertzogville Magistrate’s Court, Free State police said on Wednesday.

“They were each fined R1 500 or three months imprisonment for trespassing, and R300 or 20 days imprisonment for malicious damage to property,” said spokesman Sergeant Thabo Litabe.

The former policeman, Moses Monyane, 40 and Johannes Mhlotshana, 34, were arrested after they were found inside the offices of the detective branch in Hertzogville on June 26.

“Police were informed by a passer-by that there are people inside the building, which operates between 07:30 and 16:00 from Monday to Friday. They could not explain to the police their reasons for being inside the building and were arrested on the spot.”

The two were found guilty and fined on Tuesday.
