Cape Town -Two people have been arrested following a burglary at a retail shop in Hout Bay, Cape Town on Thursday, police reported.

Captain Frederick van Wyk said the doors were forced open to gain entry into the shop in Mainstream Centre. “Security Guards came upon the suspects while they were loading the stolen clothing into a silver Audi.”

Van Wyk said police officers were alerted to the incident, and a chase ensued in the direction of Constantia Neck. “The Audi was pulled over just before the Neck by Hout Bay SAPS members.”

Three occupants ran away and were noticed by Wynberg police officers who were also in the vicinity to help, he said.

“After they matched the description that was given, two of the suspects were arrested,” said van Wyk.

It was discovered that the car they were using was hijacked in Milnerton on April 18, 2015. Van Wyk said the stolen items were recovered and would be handed in as evidence.

The two, aged 25 and 28, were charged with hijacking, possession of suspected stolen goods and house breaking.

The suspects, from Cross Roads in Nyanga, will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate Court on Monday.
