Two in dock for illicit cigarettes

Rustenburg – Two men arrested for trading in illicit cigarettes with a an estimated value of R500 000 have appeared in the Mahikeng Magistrate’s Court on Monday, North West police said.

Police spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko said the case against Kgomotso Segwe ,37, and Sellah Motiki , 32, both from Botswana, was postponed to July 3, for a bail application.

The two were arrested along the borderline fence at the weekend. Captain Ramaloko said the police had acted on a tip-off.

“Upon arrival they found two suspects illegally crossing with boxes of illicit cigarettes loaded on a White Mitsubishi Canter. The men were arrested and police seized 60 master cases of Sasha and 40 master cases of Seville cigarettes to the estimated value of over half a million rand.”
