UFS lecturer’s alleged killer granted bail

Bloemfontein - An 18-year-old accused of killing a University of the Free State lecturer was granted bail by the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, police said.

Khethang Abednego Ramolula was released on bail of R1000, Constable Sinah Mpakane said. The matter was postponed to December 12 for further investigations.

Lehlohonolo Mathengtheng's body was found in his flat in Willows, Bloemfontein, on Sunday, September 28.

His throat had been slit. The alleged killer was believed to have been friends with him and a Grade 10 pupil at a local high school.

Mathengtheng, 27, was a graduate student and lecturer in the department of medical microbiology and virology at the UFS.

Ramolula was arrested on October 18. He was charged with murder and theft.
