Eastern Cape - Two suspects have been arrested for the rape of a 47-year old American woman in the Tsitsikamma area on Sunday, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

“It is alleged that on Sunday…a 47-year-old woman was jogging in the Tsitisikamma area, in Storms River, when she was approached by two unknown men. The men overpowered her and dragged her into nearby bushes where they raped her,” police said in a statement.

Police launched a search for the suspects after the woman, confirmed to be a US citizen who teaches at an American school in Gauteng, reported the rape to police officers.

The two suspects, aged 25 and 26, were arrested a few hours after the incident.

They are expected to appear in the Storms River Magistrates court on Wednesday.

“Crimes against women and children are a priority for the SAPS and we will leave no stone unturned, when investigating such cases”, said Brigadier Neil Jantjies, the Humansdorp cluster commander.
