She wept throughout her evidence, sniffing and wiping away tears as she recounted the events of February 14, 2010 - the day she said the “Sunday rapist” pounced on her.

Her voice cracking with emotion, the Vanderbijlpark teenager told the court she had been walking home from a café on a Sunday when a gunman jumped out of a white bakkie and ordered her to get inside.

She was blindfolded and her hands were tied to the passenger door’s handle. Then her attacker drove her to a secluded area where he sat on her lap, lifted one of her legs and raped her.

“He undressed me and loosened my bra,” the girl said on Tuesday before bursting into tears.

Johannesburg High Court Judge Sita Kolbe adjourned proceedings to allow her time to compose herself.

“He put his penis inside me and kept pouring a lubricant. I told him he was hurting me (but) he said I should keep quiet, otherwise I’ll get hurt,” said the teen.

She was describing her ordeal at the hands of a man facing multiple charges of rape, kidnapping, sexual assault and two murder charges; one for the death of Lizaan Farmer and one for the death of Louise de Waal.

Lizaan was killed when she leapt out of Johannes Steyn’s moving vehicle after she was abducted along with a friend.

Louise was burnt alive after she had been abducted by a man who fits Steyn’s description.

On Tuesday, four of Steyn’s surviving victims related their stories in the high court sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court in Ekurhuleni.

Each gave chilling details of their sexual assaults with striking similarities. Most had been walking from shops when they were attacked. Each were held up at gunpoint, bundled into their attacker’s vehicle, taken to a secluded spot and sexually violated.

One of them, a 15-year-old who was 12 at the time, had even offered Steyn some chocolate.

“Do you know what will happen if you don’t tell the truth?” asked Judge Kolbe once the 15-year-old had sat down behind a glass partition separating child victims from the glare of their alleged attackers.

“I’ll go to hell,” she said, breaking the tension in the courtroom.

But the light moment did not last long as the girl burst into tears while recounting the events of November 2009.

“He blindfolded me with my shirt. He touched my breasts,” said the emotional girl as she wiped tears from her eyes.

Her mother, who was seated next to her, handed her a glass of water as she continued to describe how she had been violated.

Like other girls who had allegedly fallen victim to Steyn’s sex-crazed escapades, the girl’s panties and a bra were taken away as “trophies”.

Asked how she has been doing since the incident, the girl, who was crying at this point, said: “I know God is always by my side… nothing can get me down.”

Just like the witness before her, the Potchefstroom girl said, however, she still had nightmares.

Also testifying was an 18-year-old woman who was made to wear a white G-string with flowers on it and perform oral sex on her abductor before she was raped.

“He said I’m gonna enjoy this. He then said I’ve got a nice ass. I cried and he said I must relax,” said the woman, who had been walking home from a school in Rustenburg when she was abducted at gunpoint.

As she was left to find her own way back home, her attacker drove off with the teen’s bra and panties.

Steyn has pleaded not guilty to the 37 counts against him. But the woman who was married to him at the time of the offences said he had called her and apologised for kidnapping Louise.

“He called to say he kidnapped a girl, he’s really sorry and that he’s a monster,” said the emotional woman.

She said Steyn always left their Krugersdorp home for four hours on Sundays to go to a hospital where he said he was doing community service for a previous offence.

On one occasion, the day Lizaan and her friend were kidnapped, he had gone back to meet his wife and mother-in-law at a restaurant for lunch. “He was his usual self… chatting and making jokes,” said Steyn’s ex-wife.

He had just raped Lizaan’s friend, it has been claimed. The trial continues on Thursday. - The Star
