Durban - A man was arrested at King Shaka International Airport on Wednesday just hours after his wife was found dead at an upmarket Umhlanga apartment.
The man who cannot be named as he has yet to appear in court is believed to have beaten his wife severely before shooting her dead.
According to sources close to the investigation, the woman was a doctor at a hospital and had been on holiday in Durban with her husband.
The man had been on the run since the incident and called his brother to notify him that he was at the airport.
When police arrived at the airport to arrest the man, he threatened to kill himself in the car park but was apprehended before he could do anything.
He is expected to appear in the Verulam Magistrates court on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane confirmed the incident and the arrest.
