Pretoria - The Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday heard the harrowing testimony of a 93-year-old woman who detailed how she was raped by one of two intruders who invaded her home last year, and ransacked her home.

The woman who was attacked in her Groenkloof home on October 18 last year said she remembered one of the men raping her repeatedly while the other broke open cupboards and filled black plastic bags with her belongings.

She told the court the men ignored her desperate pleas to stop.

“I begged the other man to stop his friend from choking and raping me, but he just wanted to know where the keys to the other cupboards were,” she said.

“He was choking me while raping me so I decided to lay still, hoping he would leave,” said the woman.

William Mulaudzi, 32, and Xolani Ngudle, 33, face four counts of rape, one charge of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft. They have pleaded not guilty.

The woman said she was raped four times by Ngudle and he did not wear a condom. She said after the attack, Ngudle lay next to her until daybreak.

Outside court, the woman’s son said the ordeal had affected his mother badly. She was no longer the same person.

“She used to go out to do her own shopping, catching the taxi and looking after herself but now she can’t anymore. Hence we decided despite her reservations to put her in a retirement village,” he said.

The woman said since the attack she has had problems with her bladder and her back was often sore. “I was strong on my own, taking care of myself and doing my garden but it’s not the same anymore,” she said.

The case was postponed to next month.
