Durban - A Chatsworth mother, 83, has died a week after witnessing her son being killed in their home during a robbery.

Gerard Pillay, 45, was fatally stabbed in front of Stella Pillay earlier this month.

She took ill after the incident and was hospitalised and had to get a day pass to attend her son’s funeral, spending Mother’s Day at the Clare -Estate Crematorium.

A week later, she died in hospital. She was cremated at the crematorium on Tuesday.

Police have released an identikit of a man suspected of murdering her son.

He is alleged to have worked as a gardener for the family.

It is further claimed that he entered the Pillays’ Venus Road home and tied Stella up.

Her son arrived and found two men inside. The men stabbed him and fled, and their victim died in his backyard while screaming for help.

Chatsworth Police are -appealing for help in locating the suspect to solve the case.

Police spokesman, Major Thulani Zwane, said knives and a bush knife were recovered at the scene.

The man in the identikit is between 25 and 30 years old. He is of medium height with a muscular build.

He is fair or medium in -complexion with a smooth face. He speaks English fluently.
