Cape Town - Children playing in a park are traumatised after finding the body of a woman whose face had been cut off.
The woman was found on Monday, wrapped in vinyl and a blanket inside a wheelie bin on a playground near a canal along Taurus Street in Phoenix, Milnerton.
Locals believe she may be a young mother who disappeared recently.
As police and forensic experts attended to the scene, onlookers caught glimpses of the woman’s scarf, her arm and her hair which was in a bun.
Friends of the missing woman at the scene told the Daily Voice: “The person is wearing a scarf and the girl we know had a baby and was tall and thin and always wore a scarf with her hair in a bun.
“We usually see her every day but we haven’t seen her for days, which makes us think it might be her.”
Residents claim this is the third body found on the field.
Saraline Laban, 21, said: “A baby and a man’s body have been found here in the past two years. This is a danger for our children because they play here everyday.”
SA Paramedics’ Warren Cupido says the woman’s face had suffered trauma and was “possibly skinned off”.
Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut added: “The cause of her death and the motive [also] needs to be established.”
