Woman held after fatal stabbing

Butterworth - A man has been stabbed to death, allegedly by his girlfriend, at Eugene informal settlement in Zithulele near Butterworth, Eastern Cape police said on Friday.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said the 34-year-old man was stabbed on his upper body on Thursday night.

“The suspect [girlfriend] whose age is yet to be established also injured herself with the same knife she used in fatally stabbing the boyfriend. She is currently under police guard at Butterworth hospital,” said Manatha.

He said the woman would be charged with murder after being discharged from hospital.

“The identity of the deceased is still being with held pending the notification of his next of kin.”
