Bloemfontein - The case against an 18-year-old youth who allegedly killed a University of the Free State lecturer was postponed by the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Monday, police said.

“He failed to appear in court today because some of the information on the case was not available,” Constable Sinah Mpakane said.

The youth would appear again on Tuesday. He was arrested on Saturday night.

“The lifeless body of Lehlohonolo Mathengtheng was found by his friends in his flat in Willows, Bloemfontein on Sunday, 28

September, who then alerted the police,” said Mpakane.

Mathengtheng's throat had been slit. The alleged killer was believed to have been friends with him and a Grade 10 pupil at a local high school.

News24 reported that Mathengtheng, 27, was a graduate student and lecturer in the department of medical microbiology and virology at UFS.
