Zeerust - Members of the police’s K9 and crime intelligence units in Zeerust arrested five suspects and confiscated drugs worth more than R22 000 during two operations in the North West over the weekend, police said on Monday.

In the first operation, a plastic bag full of the drug known on the street as “Kat” was found during a raid on a house in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Officers continued to search the house and found more drugs stashed in a broom.

The total value of the drugs found in the house was R17 600.

A 38-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with drug dealing.

Later the same morning, the officers received a tip-off from an anonymous caller that two vehicles were transporting dagga to Mahikeng. The officers stopped the vehicles and searched them.

“The police recovered eleven plastics of dagga... (with an) estimated value of R5 000 hidden inside the silver Corsa vehicle. Four suspects between the ages of 23 and 36 were arrested and charged for being in possession of dagga.”

All five suspects were expected to appear in the Zeerust Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
