Cape Town - President Jacob Zuma’s office on Sunday denied reports that he had sought to prevail on embattled National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega to resign.

“President Zuma has not had a discussion at any time with General Phiyega with regards to removing her from her position or to deploy her in any other position,” the presidency said from Moscow, where Zuma was holding talks with President Vladimir Putin.

Presidential spokesman Harold Maloka termed “incorrect” a report in City Press which said Zuma had given Phiyega the option of a diplomatic posting or redeployment to another government department but she declined both.
