Sydney - A chef charged with swindling his boss over 100 000 chicken schnitzels has been ordered by a court to pay $70 000 in damages.

The chef had been buying bulk schnitzels for $1.80 each through his wife's company and then charging his employer $2.80 for each, the broadcaster ABC reported.

The civil court found Kobina Amponsem had been scamming the owner of the Wollongong restaurant for years and should have told him how cheap the schnitzels really were.

The racket only came undone in an audit conducted by the owner after hundreds of quiches went missing from the kitchen. - Sapa-dpa
