Johannesburg - Agang SA has denied plotting to throw out party leader Mamphela Ramphele.
Spokesman Mark Peach said on Tuesday a news report in this regard had been the work of “some unhappy individuals”.
“It is common cause that there are some unhappy individuals who are jostling for positions and who have no support from within the structures, and have resorted to using the media to launch attacks against Dr Ramphele,” he said.
“They will be subject to disciplinary action in the near future.”
The New Age newspaper reported that party structures gathered on Sunday to discuss a way forward and a decision was unanimously taken that Ramphele was a liability to the party.
Insiders reportedly told the newspaper that everyone agreed that Ramphele “had to go” within 90 days.
Peach said there had been a meeting on Sunday but it was an election review by provincial chairs.
None of Agang SA's national executive committee had attended, there was no formal agenda adopted, and there was no mandate to adopt resolutions, he said.
The party was merely discussing a way of improving ahead of the 2016 local government elections.
“Nowhere in the discussions or in the minutes of the discussion was the subject of a change in leadership brought up.
“The statement The New Age claims was given (to) it is therefore wholly out of kilter with the actual discussions,” Peach said.
He said Agang SA had lodged a formal complaint with the Press Council against The New Age for tweeting details of the story prior to receiving comment from the party.
