Durban - Disappointed by reaction to his utterances and angered by insults from ANC Youth League supporters, University of KwaZulu-Natal political science lecturer Zakhele Ndlovu has threatened to quit as a political analyst.

Ndlovu, who is is known for his independent political analysis, said some of the people he exchanged insults with on Facebook were his former students.

He announced on Facebook this week that he would no longer offer his views to the media. His sudden decision came after he had analysed a decision by Premier Senzo Mchunu to distance himself from supporters who had marched to the ANC provincial office last week. Facebook users responded to his views expressed in a daily newspaper by hurling threats and insults at him, and he insulted them back.

Ndlovu posted: “I’m never gonna comment on South African politics. The levels of political intolerance are way too high. Our politics is now dominated by unsophisticated and myopic creatures.”
