Rustenberg - The SA National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in the North West on Saturday appealed for calm following the murder of African National Congress councillor Fundisile Nqinelo in Marikana, near Rustenburg.

“We condemn in the strongest terms possible the callous murder and call on our communities to help police in their investigations to ensure that those responsible for the ghastly act are behind bars,” Sanco provincial chairman Paul Sebegoe said.

He hoped the incident would not define how political parties related to each other on the ground, particularly in the run-up to the 2016 local government elections.

“Violence, intolerance, bullying, provocation, and intimidation should be resisted at all costs,” Sebegoe said.

According to police spokesman Captain Paul Ramaloko, Nqinelo was hit by seven bullets when he was shot by a group of armed men on Thursday night.

Ramaloko said the motive for the Rustenburg local municipality PR councillor’s killing was not yet known.
