Cape Town - A City of Cape Town councillor is being investigated by the SAPS for allegedly calling a lawyer a “stupid f***ing k****r” during an altercation about a Facebook post.

Nathaniel Ntloko, a legal specialist, claimed that Demetrius Dudley of the ACDP confronted him as he was coming out of the bathroom on the first floor of the Transnet Building near the Civic Centre, and made the derogatory comments.

But the accusations have been refuted by Dudley, whose version of the events that unfolded near his council office differed from what Ntloko described in his statement to the police.

Ntloko said Dudley closed the toilet door with his left foot and started slapping him on his left cheek. The councillor allegedly also used derogatory language and threatened to intimidate Ntloko and his family, he said.

Dudley allegedly put his arm across his throat, making it difficult for him to breathe, said Ntloko.

But Dudley said Ntloko deliberately caused a scene when the two encountered each other outside the bathroom.

There was no intimidation or physical assault, he said.

“I don’t deny that we had words, but to hear this (allegation) third-hand is a suppose. I’ve not to date heard from the Speaker nor the police, so I can only assume that what I’ve been told is hearsay.

“I won’t prejudice the investigation by making a public statement and will let the authorities and the Speaker investigate. The truth will come out.”

Speaker Dirk Smit confirmed that Ntloko had reported the allegations to his office. “I have asked him to put the allegations in writing so that I can do a formal investigation.”

Ntloko laid a charge at Cape Town Central Police Station shortly after the incident occurred on Monday.

Police spokeswoman Constable Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed on Tuesday that a case of common assault had been opened and was being investigated.
