The Democratic Alliance will lay a complaint with Public Protector Thuli Madonsela against Limpopo government officials for allegedly awarding school feeding tenders to former ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema's associates, the party said on Friday.

“As long as the status quo prevails, corruption will remain a permanent feature in our province. In the meantime we want to see justice where corruption is exposed,” said spokeswoman Desiree van der Walt.

The complaint would be laid against basic education MEC Dickson Masemola and the Limpopo education department for “unlawfully” awarding a R40 million school feeding scheme tender to Malema’s associates.

The Mail and Guardian on Friday claimed that Malema's bodyguard, his former driver, cousins and close associates benefited from the R1.7 billion school feeding programme.

The contract was allegedly manipulated to favour people who were close to Malema. According to the report, Malema handed a list of his favoured bidders to Masemola.

Malema denied sending the list to Masemola and said he did not know anyone who dealt with school nutrition in the department. - Sapa
